Intercontinental Bank supports cervical cancer confab

The Intercontinental bank Ghana Limited, has made a total donation of GH¢12,700 to the Ministry of Health and the Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital as part of the bank’s social responsibility. The Ministry of Health received GH¢3,000 as the bank’s contribution towards the up-coming International Cervical Cancer Prevention Conference to be hosted by the ministry, while GH¢9,700 was given for the refurbishment of the Doctors’ Lounge of the Child Health department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Handing over the cheques to the representatives of the two beneficiary institutions, Mr. Akwasi Effah- Adu, Divisional Head of Corporate Banking, said the bank had in the past assisted the Military, police, Fire Service, Bawjiase Orphanage, a hole-in-heart patient and also built a car park for public use at the Accra Sports Stadium. He said, the bank takes the issue of health seriously and it as considering other proposals from the Ministry of Health and management was considering the adoption of a ward or a theater. Dr. Sylvester Anemana, Chief Director of the Ministry of Health expressed his appreciation for the quick response to their request for sponsorship for the cancer conference. He revealed that, common cancers were killing women and said regular screening and checks would reduce the rate of infection and in that regard, facilities were being expanded in all hospitals. Dr. Owusu Sekyere of the Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital thanked the bank for the kind gesture and said, the facility was very strategic for use by Doctors in the cause of duty, when they need to talk to parents in times of difficulty which needed to be done under very soothing environment.
